Who We Are

Background and History

UNESCO APNIEVE was established in March 1995 in Seoul, Korea as a response of Asia Pacific Member States of UNESCO to the 1994 Geneva Declaration and Framework of Action on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Democracy, adopted by the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, 1995. The network was founded by a group of eight experts from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Thailand. It is governed by a set of statues drawn by the founders and managed by a Steering Committee. Its founding President was Dr. Lourdes R. Quisumbing.

 

It conducts regional activities and meetings and holds a General Membership meeting once in two years in one of the Member States where general elections of officers are held. APNIEVE-Philippines was founded by Dr. Lourdes R. Quisumbing and is the most active among the regional chapters in the Asia Pacific region.

APNIEVE-Philippines empowers individuals and institutions in promoting the values of Peace, Human Rights, Democracy, and Sustainable Development. It establishes networks and partnerships with local and international institutions interested in values education.

Vision

APNIEVE-Philippines is a leading UNESCO affiliated organization on Values Education and International Education in the Asia Pacific region.

What We Do

Goals and Objectives

APNIEVE-Philippines empowers individuals and institutions in promoting the values of Peace, Human Rights, Democracy, and Sustainable Development. It establishes networks and partnerships with local and international institutions interested in values education.

 

Recognizing the crucial role of education. APNIEVE focuses on the preparation of teaching- learning materials and the training of administrators and teachers from all levels in the use of a holistic approach to education and the integration of values across the curriculum.

Functions and Activities

APNIEVE establishes networks and partnerships with other organizations involved with international education and values education for peace, human rights, democracy and citizenship, and sustainable development. Among them are Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet), ASEAN Foundation, UNEVOC, and teacher-training institutions, APNIEVE is a member of the Asia Pacific Programme of Educational Innovation for Development (APEID) network.

 

It seeks to extend this collaboration with other institutions in activities like: research and the teaching of international education and values education production and publication of sourcebooks and teaching-learning modules teacher training workshops using these materials exchange programs for teachers and students National conventions and seminar-workshops newsletter to members.
